Jantzen Wells of Lubbock accepted his appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy on Thursday. Congressman Jody Arrington presented Cadet Wells with the appointment.
Every year over 16,000 high school students apply for admission to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Only 1,300 are accepted.
Wells has been in Lubbock High School’s nationally-ranked junior ROTC program since he was a freshman.
Wells was also presented with the Herman Wallace Challenge Coin. Challenge coins are sometimes used in the military to recognize achievement or to show membership.
Wells reports to the academy at the end of June.
