Lubbock Man Jailed After Violent Attack That Lasted 2 Hours

A Lubbock County grand jury on Tuesday indicted Chance Lee Copeland, 29, of Lubbock for aggravated kidnapping.  Copeland was accused of abducting Scott Mackenzie on February 6.

Police were called to a convenience store at 34th Street and Nashville Avenue.  Police found Mackenzie on the floor near the front door of the store.

Mackenzie told police he ran to the store after someone assaulted him at his home.

An officer noticed “severe trauma” to Mackenzie’s face and head.  The indictment said Copeland used a knife and a lampstand to attack Mackenzie.

A police report said Copeland attacked Mackenzie for two hours.  Copeland was arrested on February 23.  He was held Tuesday in the Lubbock County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.

*Note: Jail records from February 23 said attempted aggravated kidnapping.  The indictment on Tuesday said aggravated kidnapping.
