Lubbock man takes plea deal for 2018 shooting

Last week, a Lubbock man took a plea deal for 14 years in connection to a shooting that occurred in 2018.

According to court records, James Edward Anderson, 28, took the deal for an aggravated assault charge. He gets almost one year of credit for time that he has already spent in jail.

Lubbock Police responded to the shooting back on May 13, 2018 in the Depot District around the 1800 block of Buddy Holly Avenue.

After a fight between two groups of people, police said the groups separated to leave in their cars. Police said it was at this point when someone started shooting.

According to police, one 25-year-old victim was struck by a bullet and taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Kivalier Russell, 22, was also arrested for aggravated assault in connection to the shooting, police said in a press release. Russell’s case was still pending.
