The following is a news release from the Lubbock Mayor’s Fitness Council:

The Lubbock Mayor’s Fitness Council is excited to open the first annual grant application window. With a mission to build a healthier Lubbock community, proceeds from the 2018 Mayor’s Marathon event will be invested back to local organizations, nonprofits, schools and other groups promoting healthy eating and active living.

Launched in 2017 as a collaboration between Healthy Lubbock – a program of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) Garrison Institute on Aging – and the City of Lubbock, the Lubbock Mayor’s Fitness Council (LMFC) is a registered 501(c)(3) working to create a more active and healthy city.

LMFC is seeking to support and invest in a variety of programs and projects across Lubbock that are helping make a healthy Lubbock. Examples of desired applicants include: an elementary PE class, community garden, free yoga class in the park, and wellness classes.

Applications will be accepted from Oct.1 to Oct. 12, with winners announced Oct. 24 and grant awards distributed in the following two to four weeks.
