30-year-old Michael Hastings is in police custody, after he was served a warrant by the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office earlier this afternoon, in connection to Sunday morning’s fatal crash in the 1900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
The warrant was served around 5:00 p.m., Tuesday August 28th.
Hastings is charged with manslaughter.
Lubbock Police Officers responded to the 1900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at 4:35 a.m., Sunday, August 27th, in response to a single vehicle crash.
Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle in the median between the north and south bound lanes.
Through investigation, officers were able to determine the vehicle was traveling south on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. After crossing Idalou Road, the vehicle lost control, entered the center median, struck two light poles and a tree before coming to a stop.
The front passenger, 25-year-old, Charles Smith, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Speed is considered a factor.
Accident Investigators are continuing their investigation.
