Lubbock Police were called to a home in the 2600 block of Fir Avenue just after 8:20 a.m. Tuesday for a suspicious death.
Police said a family reported that the woman was found dead alone in the home. Although police and family believe the cause of death was probably natural, investigators were still called out to make sure.
UPDATE: On Tuesday afternoon, LPD issued the following statement.
LPD Persons Crime Detectives Investigate Tuesday morning death
(LUBBOCK, TX) – On Tuesday, November 21st, Lubbock Police officers were called to 2606 Fir Avenue, following reports of a deceased person.
Upon arrival, officers located the body of 62-year-old Debra Nathan.
Due to inconsistencies at the scene, Lubbock Police issued a person’s crime callout.
An investigation into Nathan’s death is on-going.
Spokesperson for LPD said the terms “person’s crime callout” or “homicide investigation” have a negative connotation, but it doesn’t always indicate a murder.
“Just because a homicide callout has been initiated, doesn’t necessarily mean there is any foul play surrounding the death,” said Kasie Whitley of LPD. “It is just the Lubbock Police Department doing their job to investigate that death and to make sure everything is as it should be.”
The family said the woman was in her 60s and had medical problems, but they were still surprised.
“That’s what shocks me because she was doing fine. I just talked to her the other day,” Nathan’s cousin Tommy Parker said. “Everybody who knows Debra knows she’s an absolutely beautiful person…she’s an angel. She’s just a lovely person, and she will help anybody.”
