An 18-year-old male has been arrested for two separate robberies that occurred Friday night. Francisco Rodriguez has been charged with aggravated robbery, failure to identify, unlawful carry of weapons, possession of marijuana, resisting arrest and an outstanding warrant.
At approximately 9 p.m. on Friday, January 19th, Lubbock Police officers responded to a robbery in progress at the Kentucky Fried Chicken at 6411 19th Street. The suspect, armed with a gun, attempted to steal money from the register and then fled the scene.
Just 30 minutes later, dispatch received another call of a robbery at the Smoke Head Shop located at 5302 Slide Road. The suspect robbed two customers inside the store at gun point and then stole merchandise from the business.
Around 11:45 p.m., a patrol officer observed a traffic violation in the area of East 2nd Street and Zenith Avenue. Through the traffic stop, it was determined the driver, Francisco Rodriguez, matched the description of the suspect seen in the surveillance video of the KFC robbery. Property stolen from the Smoke Head Shop robbery was also located inside the vehicle.
Francisco was then arrested and booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center. His passenger, 18-year-old Ruby Banuelos, was also arrested for an outstanding warrant.
