Lubbock Police responded to a stabbing in the 1900 block of 79th Street just after 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening. 

Police said a 10-year-old boy was stabbed while playing with other kids and was transported to Covenant hospital with serious injuries. 

Police said no one has been identified as a suspect and no arrests have been made. They are still investigating. 

At about 8:45 p.m., police issued the following update:

At approximately 6:15 p.m., the Lubbock Police Department received a call to assist EMS who was transporting a 10-year-old child to the hospital with a stab wound. At this time, it appears the stabbing was accidental and involved a pocket knife. The child’s injuries are serious, but are not believed to be life-threatening.
