LUBBOCK, Texas — Jonathan Wallace Gomez, 27, of Lubbock accepted a plea deal Wednesday in federal court for carjacking and using a firearm in furtherance of a violent crime.

Gomez admits he went to Chaparral Motors in the 1700 block of Clovis Road on January 23.

Court records said, “While being assisted by a female salesperson, Gomez began using profanity, and [a] Chaparral [salesman] stepped in and attempted to assist Gomez.”

Gomez wanted to test drive a pickup truck.

“While sitting in the driver’s seat, Gomez again asked [the salesman] if Gomez could take the vehicle on a test drive, and [the salesman] again stated that he could not.”

Court records said Gomez then pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the salesman. Gomez told the salesman to walk over to a nearby fence and “not to turn around or else Gomez would shoot him.”

Gomez sped off. But the pickup truck had a GPS tracker, and the salesman gave police real-time updates on where to find it.  Police stopped Gomez at 39th Street and Ironton Avenue.

Gomez will be sentenced at a later date to no less than seven years and no more than life in prison.
