Phil Bradley, longtime Lubbock resident and managing partner of the wildly popular 50th Street Caboose and Copper Caboose restaurants in Lubbock was recently honored as Restauranteur of the Year by the Lubbock Restaurant Association. The award is presented each year to restauranteurs who exemplify success in business, community service and leadership in the restaurant industry.

The Award was presented at the August Meeting of the Lubbock Restaurant Association.

Bradley, who has a degree in architecture, has worked in the restaurant industry more than 30 years and designed and oversaw construction for both Caboose restaurants. The Copper Caboose first opened its doors at the corner of 4th Street and Boston Avenue in Lubbock, Texas, in 1977. Founded by John and Frank Fitzpatrick and Frank Smith, it was the first restaurant in Lubbock, Texas to serve fajitas. The 50th Street Caboose opened in August of 1990 at the corner of 50th Street and Slide Road. After 24 years across the street from Texas Tech’s Jones Stadium, the Copper Caboose moved in June 2001 to its new location at 5609 Avenue Q, just South of the Villa Inn.

Bradley is also very active in the community, serving in numerous golf tournaments for charity including Coats for Kids and the Kappa Classic, benefiting the Children’s Miracle Network.

Chris Berry, chapter president of the Lubbock Restaurant Association says that Bradley is a perfect example of the American dream. “Phil Bradley is an inspiration to all of us restaurant workers who put in long hours night after night. Phil began his food service career as a bartender, working his way up to partner. It goes to show any of us can do what we apply ourselves to accomplish.”

Each year honorees are selected by the board members and officers of the Lubbock Restaurant Association. Bradley, also a dedicated member of the association, was delighted and deeply grateful for the honor. “I would like to express my sincerest appreciation for being recognized as the Lubbock Restaurant Association’s 2017 Restauranteur of the year. This is a great honor and will be shared by the entire Caboose team,” he says.
