The following is a press release from Southcrest Christian School:
Southcrest Christian School (SCS) will begin the new semester in January 2019 with a FOUR-DAY SCHOOL WEEK. Tuesday, January 8, 2019, Southcrest Christian School will become Lubbock’s only 4-day week school. After much research, prayer and working with a parent focus group, Southcrest Christian made the announcement to their families, Tuesday evening, December 4th.
Current research indicates that schools who moved to a 4-day week model had:
· Fewer absences
· Better preparation for instruction and curriculum
· Less interruption for extracurricular activities
· More time to thoroughly teach difficult concepts
· Decreased students and teacher burn-out
· Increased quality time for family units
The school day at Southcrest will extend 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the grade level, to fulfill the state’s required amount of instructional time. Friday Care will be available for elementary students when both parents work and childcare is needed. It will include extracurricular and enrichment activities and will be taught by Southcrest teachers on a rotating basis.
Southcrest Christian School is committed to ongoing improvement and innovation. SCS values their students and families and is devoted to ensuring a balance between home and school.
