Court records were made available Thursday concerning the arrest of Nicole Goin, 43, of Lubbock for tampering with evidence – specifically tampering with a human corpse.
Goin was arrested Tuesday and the court paperwork was labelled as “rush.”
Police were called to an apartment in the 5500 block of 19th Street on July 26. Officers found Matthew Goin dead next to a bed.
Officers found what appeared to be a suicide note.
After looking further, police believe Nicole and Matthew made a suicide pact. The arrest warrant said both took an overdose of pain medication.
A music playlist for the two had been created just after midnight on July 25. Nicole later admitted, this music playlist was for the suicide.
Nicole woke up roughly 24 hours later but she thought only a few hours had passed. When she found Matthew dead, she moved the body, according to the warrant.
Instead of calling 911, she drove to Lamesa.
She told officers that she wanted to tell her mother-in-law in person and “accidentally” drove to Lamesa. She told police that’s the reason she did not call 911.
Police in Lamesa found her stranded at a convenience store.
While in Lamesa she called her mother-in-law who in turn called Lubbock Police.
The arrest warrant said in her first conversation with detectives Nicole misled Lubbock Police about what happened. It said only after first confessing the details to family members did she then tell police the truth.
The warrant accused her of tampering with the body, assisting suicide and perjury (for not being honest with police).
On July 29, she promised an LPD detective she would not try to harm herself again. On July 31, Nichole tried to again commit suicide, according to the warrant. Police drafted an arrest warrant the very next day.
Nicole Goin was held Thursday evening in the Lubbock County Detention Center in lieu of a $50,000 bond. Her jail booking sheet said the charge against her is a second-degree felony.
