Lubbock’s Unemployment Rate Rose in March 2018 to 3.5%

Lubbock’s unemployment rate rose during the month of March, according to job statistics released Friday by the Texas Workforce Commission. 

The local unemployment rate was reported at 3.5 percent, up from the reported 3.1 percent in February. 


An estimated 159,600 residents in the Lubbock metropolitan statistical area (MSA) were employed during the month. The civilian labor force was estimated at 165,400.

Lubbock’s unemployment in March 2017 was measured at 3.6 percent. 

The unemployment rate in Texas held steady at 4.0 percent during the month of March. 

The Texas Workforce Commission will release the job statistics for the month of April on May 18.
