Angel Hernandez, 36, of Lubbock was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Monday. He was previously found guilty of assaulting a Lubbock Police Officer.
Official records said officer Gregory Cowan tried to stop Hernandez who was riding a bike “without proper lighting” in the 6400 block of 89th Street. At first Hernandez stopped and talked to Cowan. Then, when Cowan discovered that Hernandez had a warrant for his arrest, Hernandez ran off.
A foot chase led to the fence at a house in the 6500 block of 90th Street. According to a police report, Hernandez was on the fence while trying to climb onto the roof. The officer used his taser.
Hernandez fell to the ground and the two men struggled. The officer wrote, “[Hernandez] bit my right arm multiple times in an attempt to get me to let go of the taser.”
The officer also wrote that he was in fear of his life.
Hernandez had previous arrests in Lubbock for burglary, assault, and other charges.
