LUBBOCK, Texas — Lubbock Mayor Dan Pope on Monday released a statement on the passing of former Lubbock City Councilman and former Lubbock ISD Trustee Deaton Rigsby.
Mayor Pope said:
“Denise and I send prayers and condolences to the Rigsby family upon the passing of Deaton Rigsby. His service as an elected official on both the Lubbock City Council and LISD Board of Trustees, as well as his efforts as a founding member of Voice of Hope: Lubbock Rape Crisis Center, reflect the legacy of a true public servant. As we approach the 49th anniversary of the Lubbock Tornado, it is appropriate to remember Deaton Rigsby and express our appreciation for his service during that tragic time and for his wise leadership in the aftermath of the 1970 tornado.”
Later in the day, Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees President Zach Brady issued this statement:
“Deaton Rigsby was a dedicated public servant, devoting years of leadership to the community and public education. He was a real gentleman who was selfless with his time and energy for the betterment of Lubbock and Lubbock ISD.”
