Mayor Dan Pope will proclaim Saturday, May 19 Kids to Parks Day in Lubbock. Kids to Parks Day is a nationally coordinated day designed to connect kids and families with their local, state, and national parks.
The proclamation will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 17 at Maxey Park located at 4020 30th Street.
“Parks serve a vital role in our community by providing a fun and safe place for residents and visitors to play, exercise, and enjoy the outdoors,” Lubbock Mayor Dan Pope said. “Building a healthier Lubbock by promoting an active lifestyle is part of the Mayor’s Fitness Council’s mission. I am proud that Lubbock will join in this national day of outdoor play and encourage everyone to take part by visiting any of the 81 parks in our city.”
Kids to Park Day is organized by the National Park Trust (NPT). Through teaching the next generation to appreciate our public lands, NPT works to foster future park enthusiasts and create the next generation of park stewards.
The City of Lubbock maintains approximately 3,000 acres of park land and numerous amenities including:
• 47 Basketball Courts
• 2 Bike Trails
• 3 Disc Golf Courses
• 2 Dog Parks
• 34 Parks with Walking Trails
• 19.41 Miles of Trails
• 56 Playgrounds
• 2 Skate Parks
• 51 Tennis
