More than 11 million Americans may have incorrect prescriptions for aspirin, statins and blood pressure medications. A new study from Stanford University found the data used to determine the risk of a heart attack or stroke has not been updated since the 1940’s, and therefore does not take into account changes to diet, environment and medical treatments during the last seventy years.
Having a stressful job was associated with a 48 percent higher risk of having a heart rhythm disorder, according to a new Swedish study. Researchers defined a stressful job as one that is psychologically demanding but gives little control over the work situation, such as bus drivers and nurses.
Differences in brain structure may be able to predict a person’s ability to make healthier food choices. Researchers in Paris found that greater volume in the prefrontal cortex was associated with improved self-control when it comes to avoiding tempting foods.
