Miguel Castillo, 41, was sentenced Friday in Lubbock federal court to more than two years in prison.  He must also serve three years of supervised release after the prison term.

In February, Castillo took a plea deal for attempted transfer of obscene material to a minor. Court records said a few months before the plea, a Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office deputy was acting undercover – posing on Instagram as a 14-year-old girl.

Castillo would bring up the topic of sex on Instagram, court records said.

Court records also said Castillo made arrangements to come to Lubbock from San Angelo to meet.  But instead of meeting a 14-year-old girl, he met officers who arrested him.

“At the time of his arrest, Castillo had a teddy bear, panties, a rose and condoms,” court records said.

The maximum statutory penalty would have been 10 years in prison.
