A Lubbock mom, Sabrina Zerrata, 23, was arrested Tuesday for abandonment or endangerment of a child by neglect.
In August of last year police were called when her 19-month-old girl was taken to the Covenant Women’s and Children’s emergency room. The child had broken bones in one hand and one foot, cigarette burns, and a brain bleed.
Police investigated the girl’s home in the 500 block of North Boston Avenue.
Police were told that the girl fell from a trampoline and the warrant mentions text messages about the accident on the trampoline. But at the same time, Zerrata told investigators there was no accident with the trampoline.
There was also evidence of cigarette burns on the girl’s blanket.
Thee warrant indicated there was a delay of at least two days from the time the girl started showing signs of severe head injury until the time that she was taken to the emergency room.
There was evidence Zerrata and a male friend would smoke and “get high.”
Police asked Zerrata to take a lie detector test. It found deception, according to the warrant.
The warrant names Zerrata’s male friend by name but no charges are listed against him in court records at this time.
Prosecutors asked for a bond of $10,000 but jail records did not yet list the bond she would need to post to get out of jail.
The warrant did not say to what extent the girl has been able to recover since she was hospitalized last year.
