Stephanie Nicole Rodriguez, 28, of Lubbock was indicted Tuesday by a Lubbock County grand jury for injury to a child.
The indictment said she “intentionally or knowingly” caused serious injury to a child with a “deadly weapon” which was described as a hair straightener.
Court records in an ongoing CPS case said Rodriguez was arrested on May 18 – shortly before she gave birth to a baby girl. CPS took custody of the baby girl at University Medical Center.
The CPS court records quoted Rodriguez as saying she had given birth to 10 children. Five of them had been adopted, and the other five had been placed either with family or with CPS.
As for the current criminal case, court records said the victim was 7 months old in September of 2017. Court records accused Rodriguez of burning the child on the arm with a hair straightener which caused first and second-degree burns.
As of Tuesday, Rodriguez remained in the Lubbock County Detention Center. Her bonds totaled $27,000.
Rodriguez was also indicted in April for a charge of tampering with a government record.
