First responders were called to Interstate 27 northbound at 34th Street for the report of a motorcycle accident with serious injuries.
As of 8:30 p.m., northbound traffic was blocked, which posed a problem for some people trying to get to Mackenzie Park Wednesday evening for a fireworks display.
At 9:06 p.m., a City of Lubbock LBK Alert said:
This is an emergency notification from the Lubbock Police Department regarding a(n) Major Accident. The incident details at this time are: All northbound lanes of Interstate 27 between 34th Street and 19th Street are shut down for a major crash. Northbound traffic will be forced to exit 34th Street. The LPD needs the public to avoid the area.
After the LBK Alert, Lubbock Police provided the following press release:
At approximately 8:30 p.m., Lubbock Police officers responded to a traffic crash in the northbound lanes of the 2800 block of I-27. The crash occurred between a motorcycle and a car both traveling northbound.
One person was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
Right now Accident Investigators are on scene. All northbound lanes of I-27 between 34th Street and 19th Street are shut down. Northbound traffic will be forced to exit 34th Street.
