Lubbock Police were called to the report of a motorcycle accident with critical injuries Sunday night. Officers responded to the 2900 block of 82nd Street at about 7:30 pm.
Police said a pickup truck was trying to turn northbound onto Elgin from 82nd Street.
“As the pickup turned, it struck a motorcycle that was traveling westbound on 82nd Street,” police said.
Police publicly identified the motorcycle rider as Michael Silva, 20. He was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition.
The driver and passengers inside the pickup truck were not injured.

LPD Investigating Motorcycle Accident
(LUBBOCK, TX) – Accident Investigators with the Lubbock Police Department are investigating a motorcycle crash that occurred Sunday night in the area of 82nd Street and Elgin Avenue.
At approximately 7:30 p.m., officers responded to the 2900 block of 82nd Street in reference to a crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck. Officers located the motorcycle driver, 20-year-old Michael Silva, with life threatening injuries. He was transported to UMC in critical condition.
Due to the seriousness of the injuries, investigators with the LPD Accident Investigation Unit responded to the scene. Initial information indicated a pickup truck was traveling east on 82nd Street and attempted to turn north onto Elgin Avenue.
As the pickup turned, it struck a motorcycle that was traveling westbound on 82nd Street.
The driver and two other occupants in the pickup truck were not injured.
The circumstances surrounding this crash are still under investigation.
