A Lubbock Police report provided the name of the suspect who was shot late Thursday night by an LPD officer in the 3300 block of Grinnell Street.
A police report said Paul Anthony Valderas was wanted for a parole violation and he was also under investigation by LPD for allegations of narcotics violations.
“A Crimeline tip advised [Valderas] is known to carry a firearm on his person at all times,” a police report said. “[Valderas] is a confirmed member of a violent criminal street gang.”
He was spotted at a convenience store at Clovis Highway and North Indiana Avenue. Police followed him to a residence on Grinnell Street.
“Investigators set up a perimeter around the area and continued surveillance,” the police report said.
Valeras came out of a house and was standing near the passenger side of a car that drove up to the home. Police decided to move in.
“[Valderas] produced a handgun and was shot by one of the investigators,” the report said.
Valderas was taken by EMS to University Medical Center for medical treatment where he remained in police custody.
As of late Friday morning, Valderas was not listed on the jail roster of the Lubbock County Detention Center.
Valderas had a previous conviction with a prison sentence for possession of a controlled substance.
