The following is a news release from the Lubbock Police Department:
On Tuesday, June 5th, at approximately 5:40 p.m., officers responded to reports of a drive-by shooting on 37th Street near Avenue U. Officers were also notified an ambulance was flagged down near 34th Street and Avenue W by a car transporting a gunshot victim.
The victim, a 16-year-old female, was immediately taken by the ambulance to University Medical Center with serious injuries. At this time, her injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
Initial information gathered at the scene indicates a male suspect fired multiple shots out of a car toward a group of people standing outside a home in the 1900 block of 37th Street. The car traveling west on 37th Street then fled the scene.
Other people in the area put the female into a car and began to drive until flagging down a nearby ambulance. No other injuries were reported; however, multiple vehicles in the area were damaged by gunshots.
Several hours later, at approximately 11:30 p.m., officers located the suspect vehicle in the 1700 block of Parkway Drive. The suspect or suspects were not located with the vehicle.
As the investigation continued throughout the night and into the morning, detectives were able to determine this shooting was the result of an ongoing dispute between multiple people. Detectives are still in the process of gathering information about the suspect or suspects.
Investigators with the Lubbock Texas Anti-Gang Center (TAG) are also assisting with this shooting.
