North Loop 289 Bridge Repairs Set To Begin Wednesday

The following is a press release from the Texas Department of Transportation:

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is ready to begin work on a $491,471 project to make repairs to the Ash Avenue bridge at north Loop 289. Contractor SCR Civil Construction, LLC, of Richmond, TX, is scheduled to begin the work on Wednesday, Nov. 1.

“The bridge repairs consist of replacing bridge beams, deck, railing and sidewalks, and road restriping,” said Mike Wittie, P.E., TxDOT Lubbock Area Office Engineer. “The work will require the westbound Loop 289 mainlanes and the Ash Avenue bridge to be closed to traffic throughout the duration of the project. Eastbound Loop 289 motorists should anticipate various mainlane closures, as well, but will not be completely closed to traffic.”

Westbound Loop traffic will be detoured onto the frontage road and through the I-27 interchange to reconnect with the Loop mainlanes. New stop conditions at the north Loop 289 and I-27 frontage road interchange are also planned.

“Current stop signs allow for free left-turns and thru-lanes at the frontage road ‘box’ interchange’s four corners,” Wittie said. “Stop signs will be added to require traffic to stop at each intersection of the ‘box’ interchange eliminating the free-lefts and free-thru movements.”

The new stop conditions will remain after work on the repair project is completed, Wittie added. The repair work is expected to be completed mid-December.
