On Friday, Whisperwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center was evacuated around 6:15 p.m due to a power outage that impacted over 4,000 people in the area.
No injuries were reported.
According to an LP&L spokesperson, they have crews working on the outage and power should be restored around 6:30 p.m.
On Saturday, UMC EMS released the following statement on Facebook:
Yesterday, at 1732, UMC EMS Communications Center was contacted and resources were requested to respond to Whisperwood Nursing Home in reference to an MCI (mass casualty incident).
In first response, a mass casualty incident refers to any incident that exhausts resources available and does not mean that casualties are involved.
Whisperwood Nursing Home experienced a power outage with 97 residents in house including 17 oxygen dependent residents.
UMC EMS initially deployed one ambulance and a fox unit. A page was immediately sent to staff the AMBUS. LFR was also immediately dispatched to assist in this incident.
Initial units on scene began triaging patients awaiting additional resources. Additional resources arrived on scene to help triage and transport patients to multiple facilities throughout Lubbock.
Upon arrival to the facility, no injuries were reported.
OFFICIAL RESPONSE/TRANSPORT INFORMATION:
Two patients were transported, non-emergently to local facilities by UMC EMS.
All oxygen dependent residents were immediately placed on portable oxygen bottles and monitored by Whisperwood, UMC EMS, and LFR staff.
9 UMC EMS resources were utilized including:
3 UMC EMS ambulances rotated through the scene to standby and transport patients if needed.
3 Paramedics on scene for triage and monitoring of residents.

1 Ambus Load Master
1 Ambus Crew Boss
2 Ambus Paramedics
Multiple Citibuses to transport ambulatory patients if needed
Multiple full time LFR Engine and Truck companies and supervisors

At the time of close of the incident, 2045 yesterday evening, all residents, aside from the two transported, were safely back in their room at Whisperwood Nursing Home and all resources cleared the scene.
