The Lubbock County Emergency Communication District on Tuesday provided a brief explanation of the 911 system failure earlier in the day.
The LCEC said the 911 outage started at 9:50 a.m. and lasted for about an hour and fifteen minutes. The LCEC said the failure was under investigation, but the initial thought is that a network component malfunctioned.
The following is the full statement from LCEC:
Lubbock Emergency Communication District is currently investigating the cause of the 9-1-1 outage this morning which affected all 9-1-1 call centers. Beginning at 9:50am, the outage lasted approximately an hour and fifteen minutes.
Initial findings point to a network component not functioning as intended. This caused a flood of traffic, which prevented actual calls from being delivered. The District is currently in the process of investigating the issue and verifying all network configurations.
