The Texas Department of Public Safety said a motorcycle rider lost his life Tuesday afternoon in an accident east of Lubbock.

Emergency responders were called to the 8900 block of East FM 40 just before 12:30 pm.  Among the first responders were EMS and Roosevelt volunteer firefighters.

At first, DPS said one person was taken by EMS to a local hospital. DPS later provided an update – saying the rider was pronounced dead.

DPS said he lost control of the bike for unknown reasons near a curve in the road. He was wearing a helmet. His name was not yet released.
