The following is a news release from Open Door:
Open Door is thrilled to announce an expansion to its housing program to be complete by the fall of 2018. Currently, Open Door has 30 people in its housing program with 100% retention rate. With the expansion, Open Door expects to house an additional 15 people bringing the total number of Open Door housing residents to 45.
Since 2017, Open Door has been moving some of Lubbock’s most vulnerable people off the street and into permanent supportive housing with wrap around services. The program serves people who are considered chronically homeless, which means they have been homeless for more than and year and have a disability. These services include 24 hour on-call case management, medical and mental health care, life skills classes, and individualized supportive services.
With the addition of 15 new residents, Open Door actively seeks community assistance in furnishing these homes. Those wishing to get involved may visit the Open Door wish list on Amazon.com or bring housing goods donations to our office at 1918 13th Street.
In 2018, chronic homelessness in Lubbock dropped by 52%. This expansion will reduce chronic homelessness by 34% and be another significant step toward Open Door’s goal of ending chronic homelessness by 2020.
Open Door housing has ended more than 300 collective years of homelessness. Visit Open Door online at www.opendoorlbk.org or www.facebook.com/opendoorlbk to learn more.
