Oscar Longoria has received seven years in prison after a jury found him guilty for manslaughter.
He was accused of crashing while driving drunk in 2013. Angel Flores was a passenger. Flores died and a second passenger was injured.
Longoria’s punishment could have ranged from two to 20 years in prison or probation.
The state prosecutor said Longoria had no regard for anyone by drinking and driving and should be held accountable for his actions as a grown man.
He added that a long prison sentence would also send a message about this issue in the area.
However, the defense argued adolescence played a role in his behavior at the time of the incident. They added that prison time will not be beneficial to Longoria for moving forward in life. They claim he will come out “not reformed.”
