The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) said a pedestrian accident was deadly just outside of Lubbock. Officers were called to U.S. Highway 87 south of 98th street just after midnight Thursday morning.
“… A Tahoe [was] traveling south bound on US 87 in the left passing lane,” DPS said. “The pedestrian was attempting to cross the highway from the west to the east, when he was struck on US 87 in the left passing lane.”
Thursday afternoon, DPS provided and update and said, “The pedestrian has been identified as 27 year old Joshua Lee Richards of Lubbock.”
DPS also said, “The driver of the Tahoe has been identified as Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Brian Allen Thieme, 37, of Lubbock. He was not injured.”
DPS said officers will close the south bound lanes of US 87 from 98th Street to 114th Street starting at 1:00 pm Thursday for an accident reconstruction investigation.
“Traffic will be diverted for several hours,” DPS said. “TDOT will be assisting with the detour onto [the] service road.”
NOTE: DPS released the names and then later provided a correction. The name of the pedestrian is Joshua Lee Richards.
