Xavier Garcia, 20, of Lubbock was not charged with murder as of early Wednesday evening for the death of Katrina Castillo, 20.  However, Lubbock County Sheriff Kelly Rowe did confirm to EverythingLubbock.com that Garcia was a person of interest in the murder case.

Castillo’s body was found Monday in a backyard in the 4200 block of East 2nd Street.

Garcia was arrested late Tuesday for a violation of his deferred adjudication in a 2017 assault case.

In that 2017 case, Garcia was accused of aggravated assault for putting the barrel of a gun in a woman’s mouth.  Police later discovered it was a replica gun, and Garcia took a plea deal.  He agreed to serve 10 years of probation, and if he stayed out of trouble he could avoid prison time.

In the 2017 case, updated court records on Wednesday said Garcia admitted to substance abuse and he failed to pay his monthly court supervision fee.  A judge found that reason enough to arrest Garcia.
