The United Family [on Friday] announced Crockett Tidwell, clinical pharmacy manager and vaccine specialist for the company, has been named one of six national winners in the 2019 Immunization Champion Awards by the The American Pharmacists Association (APhA).

The Immunization Champion Awards annually honors individuals and organizations who have made extraordinary contributions toward improved vaccination rates within their communities. Tidwell is recognized in the newly added category of Travel Health for his efforts to educate communities in The United Family’s trade areas on necessary travel vaccines, and ensure their availability at all pharmacies within The United Family.

Tim Purser, director of pharmacy for The United Family, said, “Crockett has been instrumental in developing and implementing many clinical aspects of our pharmacy operation including travel health. His passion for helping improve the overall health of the communities we serve is evidenced by his work to provide information and access to travel vaccines for so many of our community members heading to underserved communities around the world. We congratulate Crockett on this recognition from APhA and thank him for his tireless efforts to improve the way Pharmacists impact the health of our communities.”

Pharmacists, in collaboration with physicians, public health officials, and other immunization stakeholders, are recognized as important members of the immunization neighborhood, with millions of vaccinations administered by pharmacists each year.

“TheAPhA Immunization Champion Awards program helps us tell the story regarding pharmacists’ contributions to and impact on the health of communities and as valued members of the immunization neighborhood,” according to Mitchel Rothholz, RPh, MBA, APhA chief strategy officer. “We applaud the more than 340,000 pharmacists trained to administer vaccines and who are making a difference in their communities.”

The APhA Immunization Champion Awards consist of six categories of recognition, including individual practitioners, friend of pharmacy immunization efforts, corporation/institution, community outreach, pharmacy team member, and travel health (new for 2019). Nominees were evaluated based on the areas of impact, collaboration, communication, coordination, originality, and overcoming challenges and creating opportunities for pharmacists.
