Since 2013, Phillips 66 has been a tremendous contributor to academics at Texas Tech University with its financial commitment to education in several different areas.
With the most recent annual gift of $250,000, the company has donated $1.27 million to support the Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering and the Jerry S. Rawls College of Business Administration, as well as the University Career Center, the Lauro Cavazos & Ophelia Powell-Malone Mentoring Program (Mentor Tech) and other numerous programs at Texas Tech.
“We are appreciative of our partnership with Phillips 66 and their commitment to higher education,” said Lawrence Schovanec, Texas Tech president. “Their generosity benefits Red Raiders while they are students and then with career opportunities after graduation.”
Phillips 66 has more than 14,000 employees dedicated to energy manufacturing and logistics, and operating 15 refineries that sell petroleum products at more than 10,000 branded outlets around the world while developing high-grade plastics, chemical compounds and other chemical products.
The company’s 2016 gift to Texas Tech continues to support not only the engineering and business colleges but also Texas Tech Career Services, Military and Veteran Scholarships and Mentor Tech.
They also provide $60,000 to Shield Scholars, a program that began in 2013 for students who show a strong interest in a career in the energy industry and have demonstrated leadership abilities and involvement in student and professional organizations. Texas Tech is one of 10 universities across the nation where Phillips 66 offers Shield Scholars.
