The following is a press release from the City of Plainview.
The Plainview Fire Department responded to a call this morning. Upon arriving, a semi tanker truck, owned by Groendyke Transport carrying over 7,000 gallons of fuel, had overturned. The leaking tanks are of gasoline, but part of the load is diesel. Plainview Fire Department crews slowed or stopped the most serious of leaks, but the fuel is still leaking at this time. The clean-up company contracted by the owner and he will be coming from Dallas. The regional hazmat team from Wolfforth was called in and arrived at the scene to consult and has since returned to service. Plainview FD will remain on the scene while they transfer the load of fuel out and remove the truck and trailer. The process will possibly run into the evening and possibly the night. DPS, Texas Dept. of Transportation and Hale County Sheriff’s Office are working the scene. Initially our Plainview Police Department helped with scene control and traffic but have returned to service.
Engine 1 is working to contain and finish extinguishing the grass fire on Industrial Boulevard and will be there for a while longer. The wind is helping us on the tanker fuel spill but hampering our efforts at the grass fire. Meanwhile we still have our two medic units making calls around town. The tanker driver was transported with some serious injuries but they were non-life threatening.
