The following is a news release from Plainview ISD:

May 1 is a big day, both statewide and nationwide, in the college admissions process. It’s the day high school seniors nationwide generally inform colleges of their plans to enroll. Across the state of Texas, graduating seniors will be participating in Decision Day festivities to announce and celebrate their postsecondary education plans.

Plainview High School will host their 4th Annual GenTX Decision Day Celebration on May 9. The event celebrates the graduating seniors of the Class of 2018 as they make the important decision to attend college, trade school, certification programs, the military, or to pursue other postsecondary education.

Amy Hagerman, GenTX Decision Day event site coordinator for PHS, reports that 95% of the senior class has been accepted into a postsecondary institution as of the April 26th deadline.

“This celebration will continue to create a college‐going culture within our school as well as within the community. This marks the fourth year in a row that PHS seniors have achieved an acceptance rate of over 90%. We are extremely proud of our senior class for taking this next big step for their future.”

Hagerman adds that this is a community-wide celebration with an opportunity for everyone to show support for these graduating seniors.

“We invite the entire Plainview community to share in our celebration by wearing a college t-shirt on Wednesday, May 9, to show their support of the Class of 2018.”

The Plainview High School GenTX Celebration will take place on May 9, from approximately 1:30 – 4:00 PM.  The activities begin with a “seniors only” assembly in the PHS Auditorium from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. Former PHS Bulldog and leading sports marketing agent, Alex Ortiz, will serve as the keynote speaker.

The highlight of the day is a college signing ceremony open to the community that will take place in the PHS Main Gym from 3:05 – 3:55 p.m.

Every senior who has been accepted into their postsecondary program by April 26 will be recognized.  Each senior will be given the opportunity to sign a ceremonial “letter of intent” and be presented with a certificate announcing their postsecondary pathway.  Parents or family members of the seniors being recognized are asked to meet in the East Gym between 2:40 and 2:50 p.m. if they would like to escort their senior student into the signing ceremony

Additionally, the seniors participating are eligible for numerous prizes purchased with donations from the Plainview High School faculty and staff, the PHS 2018 junior class, the PHS student council, United Supermarkets, Texas CarWorx, Caprock Plumbing, Parker Logistics and Nancy Cox. Students must attend the assembly to be eligible to receive a prize.
