The following is a news release from the City of Plainview:

Plainview Mayor Wendell Dunlap completed his two-year term as the South Plains Association of Governments (SPAG) President handing the gavel to Garza County Judge Lee Norman at the annual business meeting of the general assembly held this September.

The South Plains Association of Governments is a Council of Governments that serves a fifteen county region in Northwest Texas. Created in 1967, SPAG is the only organization representing all general purpose governments, both cities and counties, in the region.

As the President, Mayor Dunlap was responsible for overseeing an executive committee of ten members from the forty-three member SPAG Board of Directors as they worked to develop the economic, social and physical environments of the region. The Board meets monthly to provide policy directions and recommends the annual operating budget to be approved by the general assembly, which is composed of more than seventy locally elected officials.

“SPAG and their members work hard to help local governments create opportunities for their constituents,” says Mayor Dunlap. “It was a great honor to represent Plainview and serve as the SPAG President.
