Court records filed on Friday and made public on Monday showed the Lubbock Police Department confiscated $38,185 and a long list of marijuana products from Austin Edward Cooper, 21, of Lubbock.
Police arrested Cooper on May 19 and searched his residence. Officers originally showed up at his residence in the 3100 block of 4th street for the report of a domestic disturbance. Cooper was charged with money laundering, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.
Police listed 44 line items of confiscated materials according to the newest court records. They included cash, three guns, a “drug ledger,” digital scales, medical marijuana paperwork, amphetamine pills, alprazolam pills, five cell phones, and many items made from marijuana including candies and wax resin.
Court records said most of the cash was hidden in the ceiling of the kitchen inside Cooper’s residence.
Cooper was released on bond the day after he was arrested. The criminal charges against him were still pending on Monday.
Police and prosecutors asked a judge for permission to permanently keep the cash. Cooper has not filed an objection to that request as of Monday.
