A police report said a Texas Tech football player was accused of getting into a fight at a bar in the early morning hours of Saturday. The player was not arrested and not listed by name in the public version of the police report.
The victim, a 20-year-old man, was at Bash Riprocks, 2419 Main Street. The suspect approached him and said something, but the victim could not hear what he said because of loud music.
“[The suspect] became angered by this and grabbed [the victim’s] shirt, by the shoulders, and began to shove him backwards,” a police report said. The suspect shoved the victim out of the business and out onto the 2400 block of Broadway Street.
The report said a victim was hit by three suspects and knocked unconscious.
“[Suspect #1] is a football player for Texas Tech and associated with [Suspect #2] and [Suspect #3],” the police report said.
The police report also said the first suspect (the football player) punched another man and a woman. The police report also said he ripped a cigarette out of another man’s mouth for no listed reason.
When the first victim regained consciousness, the four victims left together. They reported the incident later.
“When asked why [they] waited to contact police, they responded, ‘They had been drinking,’” the police report said.
Three of the four victims (including the woman) had visible injuries. None of the injuries were life threatening and all of them refused medical attention according to the police report.
Texas Tech Senior Associate Athletics Director Robert Giovannetti said, “We have been made aware of an alleged incident Friday night. We are gathering facts at this time.”
