Police standoff started when man fired a shotgun from inside a home

On Monday, an arrest warrant was made public concerning Shae West Partain, 22, who was arrested after a standoff with police last week in the 2300 block of 33rd Street.

Police were called because a man “fired a shotgun multiple times out the second story window.”  Police surrounded the home and began negotiations with Partain.

Officers at that time had both lethal and less-lethal weapons drawn.

Two officers inside the home pushed open a bedroom and Partain threw a knife at the officers.  The knife landed behind the railing of a set of stairs and no one was injured.

A police report (which listed Partain as A1) said in part:

A1 would not come out of the room for multiple hours and attempted to escape by entering the attic. A1 attempted to climb across the attic that connected to the neighboring townhome at 2215 33rd street. A1 then fell through the ceiling on to the stairs. A1 was arrested and had multiple knives and edged weapons on his person at the time he was taken into custody.

During the incident, the arrest warrant said Partain threatened to kill officers.  He was taken to a local hospital first and then later moved to the Lubbock County Detention Center.

Partain remained in jail on Monday in lieu of bonds totaling more than $100,000. The arrest warrant increased the charges against Partain from “felon in possession of a firearm” to aggravated assault on a public servant.
