Lubbock received officially 0.1 of an inch of rain Tuesday morning with a chance for more rain later in the day.  The City of Lubbock said recent rains have delayed mowing the grass in city parks.

The city issued the following written statement Tuesday morning:

Over the past 14 days, the City has seen approximately 2.5” of rainfall, keeping us above average for the summer. This beneficial precipitation continues to delay regularly scheduled mowing at City parks. In order to protect the park grounds, heavier mowing equipment is not used until the ground has dried, leading to further delays.

Contractors and staff are working to keep new growth under control, but with the chance of additional rain in the coming days, more delays are expected. City staff continues to supplement contract mowing, and contractors are being allowed to adjust their mowing height by half an inch and mow after hours and on weekends in an effort to get back on schedule as soon as possible. If you have an area of concern, please contact 311.

The City regrets the inconvenience this delay causes for park-goers, and thanks them for their understanding and patience.
