Jury selection began Monday in the murder trial of Ruben Ramos III of Lubbock. Ramos pleaded guilty, however, he will go before a jury instead of a judge for punishment.
Ramos and Justin Angel Flores were indicted for the October 2015 stabbing death of Nakasha Nolan, 23.
An official statement at the time said, “Patrol officers responded to a check subject slumped over inside a white Chevy Impala at 1604 45th Street.”
It also said, “Officers arrived and located a female slumped over inside a white Chevy Impala with multiple stab wounds.”
Ramos, now age 23, told investigators he believed Nolan was a “snitch” or a person who cooperates with police.
Ramos was arrested in November of 2015. He remained in custody Monday in lieu of a $500,000 bond.
Flores, now age 21, continued to be held Monday in the Lubbock County Detention Center on a $1 million bond.
The range of punishment for murder is five to 99 years or life in prison. A jury will hear testimony on the case and then decide Ramos’ fate.
