Texas Tech University officially welcomed and introduced Matt Wells as the new head football coach of the Red Raiders on Saturday.
A press conference was held at United Supermarkets Arena for the media and fans.
Wells, a two-time Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year recipient, was named the 16th head football coach in Texas Tech history on Thursday.
“My family and I are excited to join the Red Raider family,” Wells said in a news release. “I can’t thank Kirby Hocutt, Tony Hernandez and Dr. Schovanec enough for this opportunity. I am excited to meet the team and get to work on building an elite program that Red Raider fans will enjoy every Saturday.”
Texas Tech will open the 2019 season against Montana State on Saturday, August 31, at Jones AT&T Stadium.
