The following is a news release from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lubbock:

The Diocese of Lubbock, Saint Elizabeth University Parish and Raider Catholic will celebrate the dedication and opening of the new John Saleh Catholic Student Center serving Texas Tech University in Lubbock on Sunday, May 6, 2018.

Most Rev. Robert Coerver, Bishop of Lubbock, will celebrate Mass at 5 p.m. and will officially open the new Catholic student center with a dedication and ribbon cutting beginning at 7 p.m.

The dedication includes the announcement of the student program Fellowship of Catholic Students (FOCUS) coming to Raider Catholic and the Texas Tech University Campus.

In April 2015, representatives announced a $6.8 million project to construct a new Catholic Student Center at the southeast corner of Main and Avenue W and the establishment of a permanent endowment to support the student center.

A $5 million lead gift from the estate of John Saleh provided the majority of the funding to construct the new facility.  In his honor, the facility is named the John Saleh Catholic Student Center. The Raider Promise capital campaign raised $820,000 for furnishings, security equipment, audio visual systems and outdoor amenities, such as lighting, landscaping and irrigation, a large patio and surface parking on the east side of building.

The opening of this new facility will allow for the unprecedented growth of the ministry.  Therefore, we continue to embrace and nurture the life enriching opportunities for students that the organizations within Raider Catholic make possible.
