Luis Romero, 45, was found guilty of aggravated sexual assault of a child on Tuesday by a jury in Lubbock.

An underage girl testified at trial that in July of 2016, she woke up with Romero touching her inappropriately.  She testified that she told Romero in Spanish that “I did not want this.”

She testified that he forcefully assaulted her – first by using his fingers.  She said he then forced her to have sex.   She also testified that she tried to push him off but couldn’t.

The jury was told that Romero was living with the victim’s family.  In addition to the sexual assault charge, Romero has been held in the Lubbock County Detention Center on an immigration hold.

The defense did not make any opening or closing statement to the jury.  Romero will be sentenced by a judge.

The penalty range is between 5 to 99 years or life in prison.
