On Thursday, the Roosevelt ISD Athletic Director, Jim Miller, named Matt Landers as the new Head Football Coach for the Eagles.

Landers was an Assistant football, basketball and Head Track Coach for Roosevelt over the past four years.

Miller made the following statement:

“We are so very excited and encouraged at Roosevelt that Matt Landers has accepted the Head Football job.  As an Assistant Coach at Roosevelt in the past few years, Coach Landers has demonstrated the kind of energy, passion and commitment that I know is imperative to improving the culture of our Athletic Department.  After getting to spend time with Matt and listening to his vision for our football program, and also visiting with administrators, students and parents, it was clear to me that he was not only a sensible choice but one that will inspire and invigorate our entire community.  He is man of consistent integrity, a great educator, and I know he is dedicated to all the athletes and programs at Roosevelt. I am chomping at the bit to work side-by-side with him to create something special at Roosevelt.  We have a lot of work to do, and I know he is ready to roll up his sleeves and start making a difference this August in football.”

* Correction: Landers was named Thursday.
