The following is a news release from the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce:

Each year the Lubbock Chamber recognizes the agriculture community by hosting a luncheon on or near National Ag Day. This year the Chamber will host the Salute to Ag Luncheon presented by First United Bank on March 19 at 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mckenzie-Merket Alumni Center.

The Chamber’s Salute to Ag Luncheon will feature Dr. Guy H. Loneragan, who will present information on the TTU Vet School efforts at the luncheon.  A veterinary epidemiologist and Professor of Food Safety and Public Health and at Texas Tech University, Dr. Loneragan’s research mission is to improve animal and public health by identification and exploration of solutions that address society’s challenges.

Agriculture is a driving force in West Texas and the Lubbock economy. Texas produces nine percent of the U.S. cotton supply and 13 percent of the U.S. beef supply. The High Plains of Texas brings in over 130,000 jobs and makes up one-third of the region’s economy. The Salute to Ag Luncheon allows the Chamber to honor and celebrate the agriculture industry and its contributions to the economy.
