Texas Tech master of public administration students will host a roundtable discussion, “Saving the Texas Foster Care System,” on May 8 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Academic Classroom Building #110.
Panel organizers say that research has shown that foster kids in Texas are less likely to do well with education, employment, wages, and mental health. Foster kids are often relocated away from their home city.
“The event includes a one-hour panel with policymakers and experts followed by an hour of question and answer,” the event announcement on Facebook said.
The panelists include State Representative Dustin Burrows, State Senator Charles Perry, the executive director of Sondra’s Song Sandi Turner, foster care advocate Kandi Quesada, Lauren Westerberg with CASA and others.
A Facebook live stream is scheduled. As for attending in person, there is a limit of 90 seats.
