Phone scammers are impersonating police in several West Texas counties and asking for money, the Bailey County sheriff said.

Sheriff Richard Wills said there have been multiple reports of phone scams in Bailey, Lamb and Parmer counties.

When people answer the phone, scammers impersonate a sheriff’s deputy and there is a warrant out for the victim’s arrest. The scammers also ask people to wire $500, Wills said.

The scammers also had a voicemail set up that sounds like it is the sheriff’s department.

If you receive a call like this, Wills said it is not real.

He advises to search online for the real police department’s phone number.

For Bailey County, the police phone number is 806-272-4569.

For Lamb County, the police phone number is 806-385-7900.

For Parmer County, the police phone number is 806-481-3303.
