Senatorial Candidate Beto O’Rourke to Host Floydada Town Hall Meeting Sunday

The following is a news release from the Beto O’Rourke for Senate campaign:

El Paso Congressman Beto O’Rourke will continue his campaign for the U.S. Senate with a public town hall in Floyd County on Sunday. This week’s event will be his first visit to Floydada since launching his campaign a year ago. In that same time, O’Rourke has traveled the state and visited 239 counties to hold open dialogues with Democrats, Republicans, independents and non-voters alike. This event is public and open to the press.

“Running this campaign with people instead of PACs or special interests allows us to show up in Floydada for a public town hall so we can continue listening and learning from those we want to serve and represent,” said O’Rourke. “Whether it’s talking about how we make sure every one of us can see a doctor, how we protect Medicare and Social Security or how we get Texans working in good paying jobs, I leave these town halls with a better understanding of the big, bold, important issues our state wants to lead on.”

O’Rourke will then travel to Silverton and Lubbock for town halls. Sunday’s event follows O’Rourke’s announcement that his grassroots campaign raised more than $2.3 million in the first 45 days of 2018 without taking a dime from PACs. This was nearly three times more than what Ted Cruz raised in the same time. While bringing in more than 55,000 contributions, the El Pasoan also outraised the sitting junior senator by half a million dollars in the final three months of 2017.

A 2018 Public Policy Polling survey showed the Democrat within single digits of Cruz. The incumbent’s narrow lead disappeared altogether when Texans learned that O’Rourke is refusing to take money from PACs in his people-powered campaign for the senate.
